Next I visited MS Update site and brought my system up to date (I reloaded XP from a SP2 slip-streamed CD). When my HD was completely reformatted, XP re-installed, drivers updated from USB drive to allow internet I immediately installed 'AVG 2012. One way to be prepared is to have SP3 and all those up to date drivers and patches and utilities on a CD, DVD, USB flash drive or external hard drive. Messing with partitions, of course, puts programs and data at greater risk, so be prepared. Then it's simple to resize XP to incorporate the newly unallocated space. You may be able to specify this in one step or you may have to resize and then move DATA to the right. Assuming you now have the 10 GB XP partition followed by a massive DATA partition you first need to resize DATA smaller by (for example) 20 GB and that needs to be between the partitions.
